M E E T   Keila

Keila Marie Ploof was born in Long Beach, NY. She lives in Orange MA with her husband, David, son, Michael, and daughter Juliana. She has always been drawn to paper, collecting and saving pieces that spoke to her since childhood. It wasn't until recently that her love of painting and paper collided. The paper is applied almost all by brush, just like painting. Most of her paper creations begin with special paper, much of it very old. The books Keila uses are damaged beyond use and feels honored to give them a second life. Texture, color, and light come alive and blend with her love of nature, creating a very unique art form.

About the Art

A second life...Keila loves to rescue books from her local recycling center. "I feel it's an honer to give these books one more ride on the merry go round!" Sometimes newer books are used if damaged beyond repair.

Paint brush in hand, Keila works to bring layer upon layer of paper to life. Often building four or more background layers before getting the color and texture just right.

Each frame is hand crafted by Keila's husband, David. A gifted man in many areas, he beautifully matches each frame to the art. Finished by stain, paint or covered with paper and given quality hardware for hanging gives the art a wonderful final touch!
